Gothic design is like a dandelion. It manifests in the most unusual of places; from a detail in a ring from the Gothic Revival period in the 1850s to an architectural concept for a modern building. While the real Gothic age occurred in 12th century France, the idea and aesthetic still has a great undercurrent of influence seen through the ages.

The most recent craze for the Gothic aesthetic started in around 1740 where England adopted the style to primarily accompany their religious ideology. When the French started doing great restorations of their classic Gothic buildings, around 1840, the great stylistic revival really began.
Lately, I have noticed a increase of gothic influences both on the street, and more recently, on the Haute Couture runways in Paris. As certain themes cycle and renew through the ages, it is a great pleasure to look at antique jewels to read the history of cultural inspiration.
